Install and renew SSL
How free SSL works on CHVEX hosting, how to check it and what to do when it does not appear.
On this page
SSL (also called TLS) encrypts the connection between your visitors and your website, and gives you the padlock and https:// in the browser. CHVEX hosting includes free SSL.
How it works#
cPanel includes a feature called AutoSSL. It checks the domains on your account and requests a free certificate for them automatically, then renews the certificates before they expire. In most cases you do not need to do anything.
Check your certificate#
- Log in to cPanel.
- Open SSL/TLS Status.
- Find your domain in the list. A padlock means it has a valid certificate.
If a domain has no certificate yet, use the option to run AutoSSL for it.
Why a certificate may not appear#
AutoSSL can only issue a certificate when it can confirm that the domain really points to your hosting. The usual reasons for a delay are:
- The domain does not point to CHVEX hosting yet, or DNS is still updating. See Point your domain to CHVEX hosting.
- The domain was added only a short time ago.
- A redirect or security rule blocks the check.
Wait a little after DNS changes, then run AutoSSL again.
Make your site use HTTPS#
Once the certificate is active, send visitors to the secure version of your site. Many website systems have a setting for the site address. You can also use a redirect rule in cPanel under Domains.
Using your own certificate#
If you bought a certificate elsewhere, you can install it in cPanel under SSL/TLS. Remember to renew it yourself before it expires, because AutoSSL does not manage certificates it did not issue.
